About the connection status indicator

Prev Next

Segura® Platform continuously checks the quality of the connection between your browser and the vault, and shows the result in real time — without you having to do anything. This helps you tell the difference between "the vault is slow" and "my network connection is slow," so you know when a problem is on your end rather than the vault's.

Key concepts

  • Latency: the time it takes for data to travel between your browser and the vault. High latency makes the platform feel slow even when the vault itself is working normally.
  • Connection state: the current quality of your connection, shown by the status indicator. It changes automatically as your network conditions change.

How it works

A status indicator in the header shows your current connection state:

  • Green — your connection is stable.
  • Orange — your connection is unstable. A toast notification lets you know that any slowness you're seeing may not be caused by the vault.
  • Red — the vault is unreachable.

The indicator only changes state after a short period of sustained instability, so brief network blips don't trigger unnecessary alerts. It also recovers automatically: once your connection improves, the indicator returns to green and any warning clears on its own.

If the vault becomes completely unreachable, Segura® Platform shows an offline page explaining that the server can't be reached, with a Try again button. This page is in English regardless of your platform language setting. It appears and clears based on page navigation — if your connection drops while you're on a static screen, reload the page to check the current status.

Clicking the indicator opens a popover that explains latency in simple terms and gives practical troubleshooting tips: switch networks (for example, from Wi-Fi to a wired connection), restart your router, or check your VPN connection if you use one. When the Network Reliability Detector (NERD) is available on your instance, the popover also links to it for a full connection diagnostic.

The indicator reflects your real network path to the vault, which includes your VPN when you use one. If your VPN adds latency, that latency counts toward your connection state — so seeing an unstable status while on a slow VPN is expected, not a false alarm.

Segura® Platform support may also consult connection health events logged for your instance to help diagnose recurring connectivity issues you report in a support ticket.

When to use it

  • You notice the platform feels slow or unresponsive and want to know whether the cause is your network or the vault.
  • You want quick troubleshooting tips before opening a support ticket for perceived slowness.
  • Support asks you to check your connection status while investigating a ticket.
