How to transfer or download a file in HTTP Web Proxy sessions

Prev Next

This document provides information about a step-by-step guide on how to perform the file transfer via an HTTP/HTTPS Web Proxy session on Segura® Platform.

Requirements

  • Have a web session available.
  • Have the Enable file transfer for download?* and Enable file transfer for upload?* fields set up to Yes. For more information on how to enable this field, access the System Parameters - Remote Session document.

Transfer a file

Attention

Before the transfer begins, the file is allocated to the available memory of the Segura® server, and then the transfer is initiated in the session. Memory limitation and transfer limit per file may vary depending on the workstation and browser used.

For Chrome and Edge browsers, the limit is 1.6 GB. For Firefox, the limit is 4 GB. In the three browsers, there is a variation of 20%, more or less, depending on the resources available on the workstation used.

  1. On Segura® Platform, in the navigation bar, hover over the Products menu and select PAM Core.
  2. In the side menu, select Credentials > All credentials.
  3. From the list, select a session that is of the web type.
  4. On the actions column, click in Start session.
  5. Leave the web window open.
  6. Open the folder where the file to be transferred is located.
  7. Drag the file into the web window.
  8. In the bottom-right corner, a confirmation message will appear.

The transferred files will be saved in the home folder in the Segura® remote drive. By default, the letter G is related to this drive.

Info

If your session has an upload field, you can navigate to the main folder where you’ll find all the uploaded files.

When a transfer is refused

When you transfer a file to the session, Segura® checks the available disk space before the transfer starts. If there is not enough space for the file, Segura® refuses the transfer and shows a message in the session. This check is always active, and it cannot be turned off or configured.

The check runs before any data moves. As a result:

  • No part of the file reaches the server, so no partial or corrupted file is left behind.
  • Your session stays active, and Segura® refuses only the attempted transfer.
  • A transfer already in progress continues until it finishes.
  • Other users keep working in their sessions and can still start new ones.

To complete the transfer, send a smaller file. Repeated refusals mean the server is low on disk space for session file transfers. Review the available space on the server before sending large files again.

Segura® records every refused transfer as an event that cannot be changed or deleted. An auditor or a security administrator can review these events in the Session Events report. The report shows who attempted the transfer, when, and in which session. For more information, access the Session Events document.
